This is a closed-mouth Jianzhan tea bowl fired with traditional craftsmanship from Jianyang, Fujian. Made from the region’s distinctive iron-rich clay, it undergoes a kiln-transmutation process at temperatures exceeding 1300°C.
Its glaze features a highly distinctive silver-blue ice-flower crystallization effect: a deep inky-blue base is covered with fine, feather-like silver-blue crystalline markings that shimmer with a lustrous glow in the light. This effect is a natural result of complex redox reactions in the iron-rich glaze during firing.
The classic closed-mouth, curved-bodied shape paired with a thick, smooth porcelain body not only complements the aesthetic of a Chinese tea ceremony setting, but also delivers practical heat retention and aroma concentration properties. It is the perfect dual-purpose choice for daily tea tasting and collection appreciation.

In Chinese ceramic culture, the Silver-Blue Ice-Flower Jianzhan symbolizes the ephemeral beauty of nature and the harmony between human skill and natural chance. Its feather-like crystalline patterns evoke the delicate texture of frost flowers or the shimmer of a moonlit ocean, embodying the elegance of spontaneous creation. Ancient artisans saw these ice-flower patterns as a precious gift from the kiln, representing the fleeting, irreproducible beauty of each firing.

Craftsmanship Insight

The striking silver-blue ice-flower effect is a result of centuries-old ceramic mastery:

• Iron-Rich Clay & Glaze: Sourced from Jianyang, Fujian, the dense, mineral-laden clay and high-iron glaze form the foundation for dramatic crystalline reactions.

• High-Temperature Firing & Rapid Cooling: Fired above 1300°C, the glaze is cooled abruptly to trigger the formation of micro-crystals of iron oxide. These crystals grow into the feather-like silver-blue patterns, contrasting vividly against the deep inky-blue base.

• Unrepeatable Uniqueness: Even minor fluctuations in kiln temperature and atmosphere alter the crystal growth, ensuring no two Jianzhan are identical. Each piece is a rare, one-of-a-kind work of art.
